Scott Edwards is an outdoor adventurer and athlete. He has many years of experience camping, hiking, backpacking and canoeing. The majority of his experience has come through his time in boy scouts. He is an Eagle Scout and past Scoutmaster and Committee Chairman of his troop. He worked as a Ranger at Philmont (1982 – 1983) teaching others how to hike, backpack and get along with nature and spent a total of three summers working at the High Adventure Base in Cimarron, New Mexico. He has been to the boundary waters in Northern Minnesota and Canada canoeing on five separate occasions, three times as the leader of a group. He has led two groups for week long backpacking trips to Isle Royale National Park. He continues to learn about equipment and techniques to use in the wilderness to make the experience both more enjoyable and safer. Hopefully his knowledge shared in these pages will make your trips more enjoyable.
In real life Scott is a licensed attorney and CPA sharing a practice in Burlington, WI with his father and brother. They do a broad range of tax and accounting work. It is due to the nature of the tax practice that Scott is able to take five months off and hike the Appalachian Trail. Without his brother and Dad picking up some slack during those months he would not have been able to do that, so a special thanks to Paul and Steve Edwards and the staff at Edwards Group CPAs, S.C.
Scott is also happily married to Leslie and has two sons, Steven & Shannon and one step-daughter, Hilary. Without Leslie’s support and encouragement he never would have been able to hike the Appalachian Trail. To all of the loved ones left behind for five or more months as we pursue our ambitions of thru-hiking, a huge thank you for all that you do.
